As part of our work on Black History Month, Year 6 participated in an event at Rich Mix Cultural Centre. They went to watch a screening of ‘Coming to England’ with a Q & A session with Baroness Floella Benjamin. Children enjoyed learning about Floella Benjamin’s past and struggles with discrimination and inequality. It was an inspirational and uplifting session that encouraged the children to embrace challenges and fight for what is right.
Year 6 went and visited the Art Pavilion to get an in depth insight into the life of Anne Frank. They had a chance to see a replica of her diary. Using this information, we will be writing biographies on the life of Anne Frank.
Children in Year 6 searched for invertebrates in the woodland and explored freshwater fauna in a pond dipping session in the Soanes Centre. They examined the animals with magnifying glasses and identified them by using classification keys. Children wrote instructions and a newspaper article linked to this trip.
