Year 5 Trip to the British Museum

This term Year 5 have been learning about the Anglo-Saxons so we went to the British Museum to learn more about the special burial site of Sutton Hoo. We learnt that Sutton Hoo is a massive Anglo-Saxon grave that was discovered in Suffolk. In 1939 archaeologists explored the burial site and discovered a ship buried beneath one of the mounds. Within this ship, archaeologists discovered many hidden treasures, such as Anglo-Saxon jewellery, weapons and armour. Some of these artefacts have been preserved and displayed at the Museum for us to see, to help us learn more about what life was like during Anglo-Saxon times.

Year 5 at Stepney City Farm optimized-p1010032 optimized-p1010015-1

Year 5 have been learning about classification keys in Science and went to Stepney City Farm to attend a classification workshop. They participated in 3 lovely activities where they got the opportunity to classify plants and leaves according to their features and followed a binomial key to classify some animals in the farm into different groups. Both classes really enjoyed the practical activities and it has really aided them in their knowledge and understanding of classification.
