Last year, Osmani Primary School joined Magic Me’s exciting new Arts & Ages programme, bringing groups of older and younger people together for creative projects over three years.   

For their first collaboration, children from Year 4 came together with older adults from Rochester Court (a sheltered housing scheme in Bethnal Green) to explore film, puppetry and storytelling.  Over ten weeks the group worked with professional artists to create stop-motion animations which were exhibited at the school at a final celebration event.

We will be continuing work with Rochester Court in January 2020.

Year 4 went on a trip to the London Aquatics Centre in Stratford to watch the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships. We were in awe of all the swimmers who have shown us what it means to never give up. We cheered, we clapped, we waved the flags… But most importantly, we were inspired by their growth mindset and determination to achieve their goals despite the obstacles they face in life.

Well done to all the children at Osmani School for taking part in the ‘Going Green’ project homework. The work you have carried out and the pledges you have made to create a sustainable lifestyle has been fantastic! We saw children banning the use of plastic straws in their homes, having car free days, recycling different materials, growing plants and vegetables and much more.

Mike Tyler MBE, the Chair of Governors at Osmani Primary School was awarded a Tower Hamlets Civic Award for his outstanding service to the community and in particular Osmani School.  CONGRATULATIONS MIKE!!!

As part of Pupil Parliament action week, WE charity visited our school and delivered a special assembly about all the ways we could help make a difference to our society and be more vocal about the things we care about.

At Osmani, we’ve been working hard on becoming global citizens and thinking about ways we can maintain sustainable lifestyles. WE taught us to ‘make noise, make change’. We thought about topics such as air pollution, water wastage and litter.

Students in Year 4 and 5 took part in workshops where they thought about realistic actions they could take such as protesting, creating awareness and writing to local MPs about their concerns. As children of the future, we hope that we can help support the global goals for sustainable development by making noise and getting people to listen to the things that really matter.

Before the Easter holidays, the children at Osmani School were set the challenge to face their fears and to try new things in order to develop their Growth Mindset. Last week, Nick Carter, who had set the challenge, came into our school and told us all about his caving expedition and the small steps he took with his team to help him succeed in his adventure.

He has extended the challenge set to the children (and adults) of Osmani School and wants to hear about all the new and daring things we have tried in order to face our fears. Those who take on the challenge and share their experience with their class, will receive an exclusive ‘Deep Fear’ t-shirt which they will be able to wear proudly to show off to their friends and family. So what are you waiting for? It’s time to face your fears. Good luck.

Are you brave? Are you not afraid of trying something new? Are you ready to face your fears? If yes, then this challenge is just for you! At Osmani, we are excited to be taking part in Nick Carter’s ‘Deep Fear’ challenge.

This adventure is a chance for children to become braver, learn about fear, and understand their Growth Mindset – but more importantly, to face their own fears first-hand. On the website page below, you can find out all about the adventure, the core values that Nick and his team are teaching, and how they plan on taking on a big challenge – going to the bottom of a deep, dark and scary cave – learning to systematically overcome their fears along the way.

As the team learns about overcoming fear and having a growth mindset, so can you at home. Please watch the videos on the main page, as the team challenges you to take on your own (age appropriate) bravery missions, and report back to school on what they’ve learned – with prizes for the best.

Osmani have been selected to participate in the Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize 2018.

We joined over 300 other schools, clubs and youth groups specially selected from across the UK to choose the winner of the 2018 prize. The Prize celebrates the best books that communicate science to young people in an accessible, creative way.

Our judging panel of keen scientists from Year 5 have enjoyed reviewing the shortlisted titles and have cast their votes. Their unanimous decision was Optical Illusions by Gianni A. Sarcone and Marie-Jo Waeber followed closely by Scientist Academy by Steve Martin.

We are eagerly awaiting the final decision to be announced at the Award Ceremony on the 15^th November.

West Ham United took over Osmani!  All the children participated in fun physical activities created by West Ham football coaches.  They also turned into commentators in the literacy lesson where they wrote and delivered a commentary for a football match.

We are very pleased to announce that the National Association for More Able Children in Education (NACE) has accredited Osmani Primary School with the Nace Challenge Award.

The award is given in recognition of school-wide commitment to high-quality provision for more able learners, within the context of challenge for all. Improving provision for the more able remains a priority for many schools and has been highlighted by Ofsted as a key focus.

To attain the Challenge Award, schools must complete a detailed self-evaluation, submit a portfolio of supporting evidence and undertake assessment by a NACE associate. During the course of the assessment on 16th March, in which members of the Governing body ably supported, staff proved themselves dedicated, knowledgable and enthusiastic and pupils well behaved, reflective learners.
