Kung Hei Fat Choy!

As part of our Chinese new Year celebrations in Nursery, we have been learning about the different ways people celebrate Chinese New Year and have been involved in a range of festivities.

Nursery have been using the internet to find out about China and the different ways people around the world come together to celebrate this special festival. We made dragons and lanterns and held our very own parade in class to show each other. We even went on to share our lanterns with the rest of the school as part of our ‘Chinese New Year’ assembly.

We had the privilege of meeting a professional dancer who taught us a chinese new year routine and we used umbrellas, fans and ribbons as part of our dance sequence. During our dance we had children dressing up as the dragon and joining in.

In our classrooms, we made cards for our families telling them about all the different ways they could celebrate Chinese New Year. We decorated our classroom with red and gold and we even used tweezers to collect coins and put them into red envelopes to bring us luck. The children enjoyed listening to chinese music, making dragon puppets and even attempting to use chopsticks to collect things.

Maybe you could try some of the things we have done as part of your Chinese New Year celebrations!
