A group of Year 4 children have been working with some older adults from the local community on an inter-generational project organised by ‘Magic Me’. Working with artists Liane Harris and Verity Standen, over the equivalent of five days, the group has used sound and image to create collage portraits including photography, collage, drawing and sound recordings.
The project culminated in a performance and exhibition at the Idea Store in Whitechapel. It showed that some shared understanding and empathy had been created during the course of an exciting creative experience.
Year 4 Amber were invited to the opening of the Switch House at New Tate Modern along with 3000 other school children. They enjoyed looking at the artwork, wandering around the remarkable new building and joining in with some Performance Art.
In Year 4 Saffron and Amber, the topic this half term has been The Romans. We have been learning a lot about Roman history, Roman geography, Roman stories and myths and Roman armies. The Romans fought in huge armies and they had very strong armour, like helmets and shields. In Design and Technology lessons we designed and made these shields ourselves! Thank you very much to all of the families who sent in cardboard to make this project possible!
First we had to carefully cut and stick two pieces of cardboard together so that we had a strong base for our shield.
Then we used our design to draw on our interesting pattern, in the style of Roman Armour.
Then we had to paint our Roman Shields, being careful to stick to our design! We used red and yellow because those were the Roman Army colours.
We added detail to make our shields colourful and eye catching.
Finally, we displayed our work in our school for all to see! We are proud of our effort in DT and our completed Roman Shields!
Year Four Amber and Saffron classes went to The Science Museum to explore their new topic for the term, ‘Getting the Message’. They went on an information hunt to find out about how communication has changed over the years. They learnt a lot throughout the day and they have been using this learning in their topic and science lessons.
The children explored how mobile phone networks operate.
Children used modern communication technology to discover information about the Earth’s atmosphere.
Year Four Amber and Saffron girls had the opportunity to go to Playon with their mums and aunties to play a lot of different sports. They had a fantastic day out and learnt a lot of new skills together!
The girls and their mums loved learning a new sport for them – Quick Cricket!
They also got a chance to play some exciting basketball!
The girls received medals for all their hard work throughout the sports-filled day!
The final sport they got a chance to play was badminton, which was exciting yet challenging.
