Comic Relief

On Friday 24th March we raised money for Red Nose Day 2017! As one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events, Red Nose Day brings the entire nation together to raise as much money and change countless lives across the globe.

The theme for this year’s Red Nose Day was ‘Make your laugh matter’ and to celebrate the occasion, Osmani held a red themed non-uniform day. Children dressed in red clothes, accessories, wigs and even face paint.

As we are working towards becoming a Rights Respecting School, it is important that we support children across the world in gaining access to their rights. We are therefore pleased to announce that we sold 426 noses and raised £254.12 in donations for Comic Relief!

Thank you for all your support and donations.

We’d like to say a special thanks to all the parents who donated to the food stalls and helped with the selling after school.

Shapes all around

Reception are going on a shape hunt, they’re going to find lots of them! What a beautiful day, they’re not scared!

We loved going to the playground for our shape hunt. We couldn’t believe how many different shapes we found. Can you name the shapes in the picture?

Why not go for a walk around your local area and see how many different 3D shapes you can find!

Local Area Migration Walk

On Tuesday 14th March, Year 3 Orange and Year 3 Gold went on local walks around the Brick Lane area. In our topic work, we have been learning about migration and the causes for migration. We found that our local area is a wonderful example of a community that has developed to accommodate migrants from many different countries around the world.

We have learnt about both negative and positive reasons that people migrate to new countries. Some of the causes include war, droughts, adventure, job opportunities and family ties.

On our trip, we took a close look at some of the graffiti in our area and how many of the messages are about migration. We took some time to design our own positive messages, inspired by the graffiti we saw. We are planning to spray paint some of our graffiti on to newspapers to display in our classrooms – how exciting! We were also keeping a close eye out for businesses, restaurants and shops that are from different countries, showing us how diverse our own area is.

Stay tuned for more updates of our spray painting adventures.

Year 5 LEGO Workshop

In computing this half term we have been learning about building and programming physical systems. As part of this topic we all took part in a fun filled LEGO workshop! We got the opportunity to create our very own LEGO Crocodile and then use a special coding system to make the crocodiles mouth open and close. We really enjoyed typing in lots of different codes into the system and playing around with different speeds and settings.

Pancake Day!

On Tuesday 28th February, Year 3 celebrated Pancake Day. We learnt about the special Christian holiday of Lent and why Shrove Tuesday is important.

With a selection and fruits and spreads, we work in groups to cut and share out the fruit equally. We felt that it was very important to share as it reflected the important values that many people who celebrate Lent follow.

Finally, there was the added bonus of devouring our lovely, sweet treats after all that hard work.
